America's Manufacturing Challenge:

The United States lost almost one-third of its manufacturing jobs between 2000 and 2010. Although software companies and IT startups are leaders in innovation, increasingly U.S. firms operated on a system of “innovate here/produce there,” leaving manufacturing, and the quality jobs it offers, behind. Investing in advanced manufacturing – such as 3-D printing, photonics, and robotics - is key to restoring production efficiency and competitiveness.
